So I went to the Utah Theatre Association Conference, Jan 29-31, hosted this year at Weber State University. It was a blast! I got to represent SFHS in the Closed Scholarship Audition, each school got to send two people (or 3 if they had 50 or more people coming from their school) and my friend and I were selected. This audition asked for two contrasting pieces showing our strengths. I chose to do a song and a monologue because I wanted the colleges there to see my performance range. The pieces I performed were, a monologue from The Glass Menagerie playing the part of Tom; and the song "What Do I Need With Love" from Thoroughly Modern Millie (sung by the character Jimmy). I spent hours working these two pieces and perfecting them as much as I possibly could. My audition went well, in my opinion, which I am sure was in answer to many prayers on my behalf. I was calm and collected and I really had fun with my performance.
I left the theatre feeling very good, on my way out Snow College handed me a flyer about them and the University of Utah told me how interested they were in me and handed me an application for scholarships. I was ecstatic! I called my dad and was telling him that I had auditioned and that I felt it went well and as I was winding down my conversation, I saw a man walk out of the audition theatre towards me. He waited patiently until the end of my phone call and then he told me he is from Western Wyoming Community College and that they wanted to give me an acting scholarship. I realize most of you have never heard of WWCC, but they are one of the best Musical Theatre schools in the nation. They have a very small and prestigious program focusing on the synergy of music, dance, and theatre in the form of Musical Theatre. They offer great training and excellent instruction. WWCC is a feeder to BYU and NYU (which happens to be the BEST theatre school in the U.S. and one of the best in the world). I was offered a very very good academic scholarship along with my acting scholarship and I would practically be paid to go to school there. My housing, tuition, food, and stuff like that would be paid for, meaning I wouldn't need to work during the school year. Yay! I am, however, waiting to hear from other schools. Last year when my friend did this audition she didn't hear from colleges for three weeks.
I'm confused, to say the least. This is an option that I'd never considered before and it is extremely exciting! I just don't know, though, if its the best place. I really want this education and the benefits of starting at a place like WWCC are astounding! There are negatives, however. I really want to go to room with my best friends in college and go to somewhere there, but now I have to decide which is more important to me. I also have to think of what moving that far away will do to my mission plans and such. I know a lot about the program at WWCC and I love it, from what I can tell. They'd hold my scholarship while I serve my mission, they have a family-oriented theatre program, which means their shows have the same integrity/content requirements as BYU, and stuff like that. I suppose I just need to pray and wait and list the pro's and con's of each of my options.
I would love it if y'alls would share your feelings on this subject and your opinions on the college choice issue. :)

How exciting! Congrats on the audition, as well as the scholarship opportunity. I'd suggest that you just do what you've said you're doing. Pray about it. The Lord will let you know if there's something you need to do with this, or if this isn't right. I'll be praying for you, too, and I'm sure there will be lots of people doing the same.
